Khichdi
The wonderful combination of rice and dal together in this recipe makes this dish a very healthy meal. I often prepare this dish during rainy days as the soupy texture of this dish is simply wonderful to enjoy on a rainy day with just a fried egg omelette. I love cooking and relishing this dish because it is quick and easy to prepare and it completely satisfies hunger in hardly any time. If you have no enough time and you want to prepare a yummy, tasty and a healthy dish for your family then this Khichdi recipe that I have shared below is the ideal one for you.
Time for Preparation : 10 minutes
Time for cooking : 20 minutes
Serves 4 People
Ingredients for Khichdi
2 cup Rice (small grain preferred)
1 cup Masoor Dal (red lentils)
1 cup Moong Dal (green gram)
2 big Tomatoes
2 Onions
6 Green Chilies
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
2 tbsp Mustard oil
5 cups of Water
Salt to taste
Pinch of Sugar (Optional)
How to make Khichdi
First we are going to slice the onions and keep it aside.
Now take the tomatoes and start cutting them into small pieces, you can also chop the tomatoes and keep it.
Take the rice and both the dals, the moong dal and the masoor dal together and mix them properly. Wash them properly all together and throw away the water.
Now take a deep bottom vessel and put the 2 tbsp mustard oil. I love the flavor of mustard oil so I prefer mustard oil in most of my cooking.
Add the sliced onion now.
Fry the onion slices till it becomes transparent, a lovely aroma of the fried onions will come out.
Now add the rice and the dal mixture to the fried onions.
Stir and mix the onions with the rice and dal properly.
Add the turmeric powder now. Turmeric is one of my favorite spices.
Now add salt according to your taste.
Add a pinch of sugar. Adding sugar to this recipe is just optional. I have added just a pinch as it enhances the taste of this recipe.
Now add the tomatoes into the recipe.
Stir everything for five minutes.
Add the water now. The amount of water can be adjusted depending on the quality and quantity of rice and dal you are using to prepare this recipe.
Let the Khichdi boil. Once when it starts boiling add the green chilies.
Cook the Khichdi till the rice and dal gets totally cooked.
Delicious and healthy Khichdi is now ready.
