Doi Maach

In Bengali the Fish is called as Maach, the name for yogurt is Doi. In this recipe fish is prepared with yogurt, mustard seeds and mustard oil. This delicious recipe can be prepared in minutes. You can prepare this recipe with your favorite fish, I have prepared the same with Catla Fish and it came out well. Not necessarily Catla any fish can be used, definitely when the procedure below is rightly followed your recipe would taste simply amazing and absolutely delicious. This recipe is very simple and easy to prepare. Here I am sharing my mouth watering recipe of Doi Maach



Time for Preparation : 10 minutes
Time for Cooking : 20 minutes
Serves 4 People 

Ingredients for Doi Maach

1 kg Fish of your choice (I have used Catla Fish)
100 grams Yogurt
100 grams Yellow Mustard Seeds
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Sugar
Pinch of Fenugreek Seeds (Methi Seeds)
Salt to taste
1 cup Mustard Oil
4 Green Chilies
½ cup luke warm Water

How to make Doi Maach

Take the fish of your choice and before everything you begin clean the fish properly.



Add little salt and 1 tsp turmeric powder to the fish.



Mix it properly.



Take the yellow mustard seeds and grind it to a paste and keep it aside.



Now take the yogurt and beat it properly and keep it aside.



Heat the mustard oil now in a deep frying vessel.



Now fry the fish pieces little by little only for few minutes on both the sides.



Remove the fish from the oil and keep in separately also keep the oil aside, you would be needing the same again.



Now add the beaten yogurt to the yellow mustard paste and mix it together.



Now add the sugar.



Add little salt now and mix it properly.



Now add the paste on the fried fish pieces.



Add 2 Tbsp mustard oil. You can use the same oil that has been used to fry the fish.



Now add a pinch of fenugreek seeds into the hot oil that has been used to fry the fish.



Add the fish that was marinated in the yogurt to the process of cooking and add little luke warm water.



Cover and cook on a low flame till the water dries up.



Now add the green chilies.



Delicious Doi Maach is now ready.
